Kumar Bishwajit (Bengali: কুমার বিশ্বজিৎ) is a celebrated Bangladeshi playback and pop singer whose career spans over four decades. Born on 5 June 1963 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he showed an early affinity for music and received formal training in classical vocal techniques under the tutelage of Ustad Abdul Karim. He first entered the professional scene in the late 1970s as a member of the pioneering band Uchchash, and his distinctive, mellifluous tenor quickly earned him recognition on radio and television. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Bishwajit became one of the most sought‑after voices in Bangladeshi cinema, delivering memorable playback tracks for films such as "Dui Duari" (2000) and "Shasti" (2004). His signature hits like "Bhalobashi Tomake", "Jare Ja" and "Shobuj" blended modern pop sensibilities with traditional Bangla lyrical poetry, cementing his status as a versatile vocalist. He has been honoured with the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer, multiple Bachsas Awards, and the prestigious Channel i Music Award for his contributions to modern Bangla music. Bishwajit continues to perform live, mentor emerging artists, and record new material, remaining a pivotal figure in the evolution of contemporary Bangladeshi music.
